Our Story
No one in our community should ever go hungry simply because they are homebound. That principle inspired the founding of Meals on Wheels Culver Palms.
In 1974, our founder, Bea Griffin, saw the success of a Meals on Wheels program in Pasadena. She believed the same care was needed in West Los Angeles. Bea gathered a small group of dedicated community members and founded Culver Palms Meals on Wheels (CPMOW), now known as Meals on Wheels Culver Palms. On April 1, 1974, the first meal was delivered. What started with one client quickly grew to nearly 40 individuals, supported by just 20 volunteers.
Over five decades, Meals on Wheels Culver Palms has become a vital community resource. Today, we serve about 110 clients weekly. Our service area stretches from Pico Boulevard to Los Angeles International Airport and from La Cienega Boulevard to the Pacific Ocean. More than 100 volunteers power our work, and strong community partnerships support us.
Our mission is simple: provide nutritious meals and meaningful human connections to those most in need. Community-funded and volunteer-powered, we stay deeply connected to those we serve.
From one meal in 1974 to thousands each year, our story continues. Each delivery, volunteer, and neighbor matters. We are proud to have served over 1,000,000 meals.
